Oral history interview with Cuthbert Corwin Hurd, 1984 July 13.

Hurd briefly reviews his education in mathematics and career opportunities that led to his work at IBM before discussing the evolution of calculating and computing technology at IBM. He describes the development of the 701 and the 650 and John von Neumann's influence on these and other IBM computers. Hurd concludes with an appraisal of important hardware and software advances that have improved computing efficiency.

John (Johann) Louis von Neumann (1903-1957) was born in Budapest and showed early signs of being a child prodigy.
